About me
Libero ultrices phasellus
I began working with clay in 2015 and trained across multiple studio roles, including volunteer, studio assistant, cover teacher, and technical assistant.
My experience includes glaze formulation from raw materials, accurate weighing and batching, and maintaining health‑and‑safety standards in a working studio environment.I have extensive hands‑on practice loading, programming, and unloading both top‑loading and front‑loading electric kilns, managing firing schedules, and troubleshooting common firing issues. In 2018 I built my own fully equipped garden studio, Terra Mia Pottery Studio, where I continue to produce stoneware work and deliver structured lessons, workshops, and courses for adults. Artist Statement
My work
My work is shaped by the quiet world beneath the surface — the stillness, fragility, and unexpected life found underwater. Scuba diving changed the way I see both clay and the natural world. It taught me to pay attention to subtle textures, shifting light, and the delicate ecosystems that exist out of sight. These experiences now form the foundation of my ceramic practice.I work primarily in stoneware, using form, glaze, and surface to interpret the environments I encounter while diving. Coral structures, sand ripples, submerged rock formations, and the movement of marine creatures all influence the shapes and finishes I create. My glazes often echo the colours of depth: muted blues, soft greens, mineral tones, and the occasional flash of bioluminescence. This direction grew from a personal shift — a period of loss, reflection, and rebuilding. Diving offered a sense of perspective and connection at a time when life felt unstable. It reminded me how vulnerable our oceans are, and how much beauty exists in places most people never see. My ceramics aim to honour that world: not through literal representation, but through interpretation, texture, and atmosphere. Each piece is a conversation between clay and water. Some works explore fragility; others focus on resilience. Many are inspired by specific dives, moments, or creatures that stayed with me long after surfacing. Together, they form a body of work rooted in respect for the sea and a desire to protect it.My artistic direction continues to evolve as I dive, learn, and observe. The ocean is never the same twice — and neither is the work it inspires.

This collection reflects my ongoing exploration of the underwater world. Each piece is influenced by moments from my dives — textures, colours, and forms shaped by the sea and the fragile life within it. These works are personal interpretations rather than literal recreations, capturing the atmosphere and quiet beauty found below the surface
